The commission of the « coute de Tie » (Thiers Cutlers), originally founded in 1582, produced a charter of quality for knife-making.
Inspectors verify that this charter is still respected in today’s production.
The Thiers pocket knife is a trademark registered to the brotherhood of Thiers cutlers: "La Confrérie du Couté de Tié". The confraternity was founded in and today still resides in Thiers. Its mission is to protect the crafting traditions and processes specific to Thiers cutlery making.
Precise rules concerning the methods, ethics and places for making Thiers knives are defined by the Guild-mastership so that each person to acquire a Thiers knife is guaranteed an authentic item.
Systematically stamped on Thiers knife-blades, the hallmark guarantees the respect of those guidelines. It is proof the knife has met the validation of the guild's council, whose responsibility it is to ensure each Thiers knife meets the confraternity's standards.
